Man allegedly kills wife in Yobe, flees community
A 55-year-old man, Hamidu Ali, has allegedly killed his wife in Koriyel village, Tarmuwa Local Council of Yobe State, and fled the community to an unknown location.
Confirming the incident in a statement yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said: “On June 28, 2025, the Tarmuwa Divisional Headquarters, at about 11:00 a.m., received a distress call from residents of Koriyel village about the fleeing of one Hamidu Ali, who had killed his wife with a machete last night.”
Abdulkarim noted that the motive behind the attack remains unclear, according to accounts from villagers.
In a related development, Abdulkarim disclosed that police investigations in the state also led to the arrest of two suspects, 25-year-old Musa Sule and 30-year-old Muntari Suleman, from Ngalda town in Fika Local Council.
The suspects were apprehended for allegedly killing a person in a dispute over the theft of a mobile phone and a power bank. “The two suspects confessed to the crime, and investigations are ongoing at the State Crimes Investigation Department (SCID),” Abdulkarim said.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, has urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He emphasised the importance of peaceful conflict resolution and assured the public of the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order in communities across the state.
