Mahama failed to resolve dumsor, be wary of his economic promises - Oppong Nkrumah warns

Ofoase Ayirebi MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has urged Ghanaians to be cautious of President John Mahama’s economic promises, citing his past inability to resolve the country’s prolonged power crisis, commonly known as "dumsor."

His comments follow President Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered on Thursday, 27th February 2025, in which the president vowed to restore economic stability and steer the country towards growth.

“I, John Dramani Mahama, will fix the economic crisis confronting our country and reset it on a path of growth and prosperity,” he declared.

However, speaking in an interview with Citi FM, Mr Oppong Nkrumah, a former Minister for Information, expressed doubt over Mahama’s ability to fulfil these commitments, referencing his previous administration’s struggles in managing economic and energy sector challenges.

“Every Ghanaian remembers that in 2016, despite President Mahama’s assurances in January of that year that he would fix dumsor, the crisis persisted.

"Now, if he claims today that he will fix the economy just as he supposedly fixed dumsor, when we all know the power outages continued in 2016, then Ghanaians can rightly predict that his economic promises may not materialise,” he stated.
