LSK Addresses Allegations of Activist Boniface Mwangi's Fresh Abduction: "False and Deepfakes"

Published 1 day ago2 minute read

Reports alleging that activist Boniface Mwangi has been abducted once again have quickly gone viral on social media, sending shockwaves through online communities.

The information circulated on X with the hashtag #BonifaceAbductedAgain, igniting renewed concerns over the safety and well-being of the vocal activist.

"Boniface was taken from his Lukenya home by unknown men speaking Swahili. No ID. No warrant. His family watched in horror as they drove him toward Namanga. This is not justice. Boniface Abducted Again," one social media report read.

However, Faith Odhiambo, president of the Law Society of Kenya, has refuted claims that activist Mwangi was taken by Tanzanian authorities from his Lukenya home.

"Our attention has been drawn to a series of false statements and deepfakes allegedly concerning the abduction of Boniface Mwangi. We urge members of the public to disregard this fake online campaign and disregard all attempts of misdirection and misinformation,"Faith's statement read.

These allegations come after Mwangi's shocking revelations about his brutal experience while detained in Tanzania.

He had travelled to Dar es Salaam to attend the court hearing of opposition leader Tundu Lissu, who faces treason charges.

In a tearful video interview, Mwangi shared how he was blindfolded, stripped, and bound by masked captors.

He further claimed that he was lifted into a painful position with his legs suspended in the air and repeatedly beaten on the soles of his feet.

To stifle his cries, Mwangi said his abductors stuffed something in his mouth and blasted gospel music from a car stereo to drown out the noise.

The activist claimed his captors accused him of being an agent of foreign interference, and the ordeal involved degrading and invasive assaults.
