NEW FREEDOM, Pa. (WHTM) — A locally owned, made-from-scratch bakery will soon be opening its first-ever storefront in York County.
The Burtt Baking Co. is owned and operated by Katie and Adam Burtt and was officially founded nearly five years ago in 2020; however, Katie’s baking expertise dates back to when she was a kid.
“I’ve been baking ever since I was a small child,” Katie explained. “I grew up baking a lot in the kitchen with my mom and grandma.”
According to Katie, she and her husband’s bakery business initially operated out of the couple’s York County home. They would then sell their baked goods at various indoor and outdoor markets across the Midstate.
Specifically, Katie said she frequently operated weekly market stands at the Main Street Market in Glenn Rock and the Red Barn Farm Market in Stewartstown. She also participated in outdoor markets, such as the Night Market hosted by Aviator Brew Hub.
Thus far, the Burtt Baking Co. is known for offering various pastries and baked goods such as croissants, danishes, cinnamon rolls, cookies, brownies, pies, and more!

On January 28, the Burtts announced on Facebook that they would be opening their first-ever storefront location at 12 North 2nd Street, just down the road from where Adam Burtt serves as a pastor for the Grace Bible Church in New Freedom.
According to Katie, the new Burtt Baking Co. location will be capable of seating about 15 to 20 guests at a time, and they will also have limited outdoor seating available in the future.
Once open, Katie expects the hours of operation to start off being Wednesdays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“Overall, our goal is to be a blessing for the community and we want this bakery to be a gathering place,” Katie added.
The Burtts are still working on storefront renovations, but they hope to officially open their doors in May or June 2025.
