The agreement includes a guaranteed fee of £100 million, with an additional £16 million in performance-related add-ons.

The bonus payments are expected to be triggered if Wirtz delivers consistent success during his time at the club.

Manchester City were also interested in signing the 21-year-old but are believed to have withdrawn due to the overall cost of the deal.

German champions Bayern Munich were also reportedly monitoring the player.

Wirtz made his senior debut for Bayer Leverkusen at the age of 17 and went on to score 57 goals in 197 appearances. He played a central role in helping the club win the Bundesliga title for the first time in the 2023/24 season.

On the international stage, Wirtz has earned 31 caps for Germany since making his debut in 2021.

He has scored seven goals for the national team.

The transfer, which is expected to be officially completed in the coming days, will see Wirtz become one of the most expensive German footballers of all time.
