Liverpool FC shares The Red Way journey at UN Ocean Conference
The club joined the event alongside principal partner AXA to share insight into its award-winning sustainability strategy, The Red Way.
LFC’s director of impact, Rishi Jain, represented the club on two key panels during the four-day event, highlighting how football can drive meaningful change for our planet, people and communities.
The first panel, held at Agora House in UNOC’s Green Zone, explored the power of sport as a force for good. Jain discussed the role of football in sharing knowledge and driving awareness, using The Red Way as a model for how clubs can take responsibility and inspire positive action.
The panel also took a deep dive into the club’s recent collaboration for World Earth Day, which brought together LFC, AXA and the Tara Ocean Foundation to deliver a creative call to protect our oceans and further LFC’s ambitions to support the UN’s SDG 14, ‘Life Below Water.’

“We know the influence of football is truly global and that brings both a responsibility and an opportunity,” said Jain. “Through The Red Way, we’re using our platform to drive meaningful change, not only through our own operations but by working with our partners to find joint solutions to global challenges.
“From our principal partners AXA, SCB, and Expedia to Husqvarna, we’re proud to collaborate in ways that make a real difference.”
Launched in 2021, The Red Way is LFC’s comprehensive sustainability strategy, aligned to 16 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The club recently published its third season-long The Red Way report, showcasing progress across governance, innovation and collective action.

The legendary Anfield pitch is now fully recyclable, with recycled turf repurposed into benches for the club’s orchard at the AXA Training Centre.
More than 1,000 trees and hedges have been planted by the club’s grounds teams, and biodiversity continues to thrive across its sites, including 60,000 bees and thriving allotments producing home-grown food for the club’s kitchens.
LFC is also the first Premier League club to achieve ISO20121 (sustainability) certification, alongside ISO45001 (health and safety) and ISO50001 (energy), cementing its leadership in sustainable operations.
