Danny Glover and Mel Gibson are back together again ahead of the fifth installment of Lethal Weapon.
During an appearance at Fan Expo Philadelphia over the weekend, the stars who struck gold with the 1987 action thriller reunited for the second time this year, nearly four decades after the first film was released.

In the franchise, Gibson, 69, plays Los Angeles police detective Martin Riggs, who becomes reckless and suicidal following the death of his wife.
He’s subsequently reassigned and partnered with Roger Murtaugh (Glover), and although he is "too old for this s---," he and Riggs soon become a force to be reckoned with.
PEOPLE confirmed in November 2021 that Gibson would sign on to direct Lethal Weapon 5 after director Richard Donner died early that year at the age of 91.
At the time, Gibson said Donner had given him his blessing to complete the next film “if I kick the bucket.”
In 2017, Gibson, Glover, 78, and more Lethal Weapon cast members reunited to honor the late director during an Academy Tribute.
During an interview with ScreenRant at Fan Expo Philadelphia, Gibson gave a positive update on the fifth film in the series.
“I sat down with a writer and we did two or three drafts of screenplays and it came out pretty good. In fact, I think it’s the best of all of them,” Gibson said.
“It’s a lot of fun and got really emotional. And for some reason, the studios are having a lot of problems. I don’t know what the deal is. I’m not sure what the problem is, but it is a really good screenplay,” the What Women Want star continued.

Glover and Gibson also had a surprise reunion in February at MegaCon 2025 in Orlando, Fla.
The Braveheart actor was onstage talking to the crowd when Glover emerged, causing fans to go wild with excitement.
In addition to 1987's Lethal Weapon, the pair also starred in 1989's Lethal Weapon 2, 1992's Lethal Weapon 3 and 1998's Lethal Weapon 4. Their chemistry paid off when the actors won an MTV Movie Award in 1993 for best on-screen duo for their work on the third film.
Lethal Weapon was also adapted into a short-lived TV series starring Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans from 2016 to 2019.
A release date for Lethal Weapon 5 has not yet been set.
