Leanne Kiernan is Liverpool FC Women supporters' choice as Standard Chartered Player of the Month for February.

The Republic of Ireland forward came out on top in a recent poll on Liverpoolfc.com to claim the award for the first time this season.

Kiernan played in all three of the Reds' fixtures during the month and scored to give her side a 1-0 victory over West Ham United in the Barclays Women's Super League.

Upon collecting the prize at the AXA Melwood Training Centre, the No.9 said: "It's an amazing feeling. I was actually a bit shocked when Amber [Whiteley] told me in the team meeting!

"It has been brilliant and a big shoutout to the team who have been brilliant, the staff as well who have been putting in an awful lot of work behind the scenes and I know it's paying off.

"I know individual awards are great but as a team realistically we want to be winning awards, so hopefully they will come too.

"The fans mean so much to us as a team. We know we wouldn't be the same without them and we really appreciate them. I just want to say thank you so much for voting for me."

Kiernan opened February with a delightful first-half flick against former club West Ham to secure three points at St Helens Stadium.

That finish saw her move up to second place on the club's top scorers list in the WSL era, behind Natasha Dowie.

She then stepped off the bench at Rugby Borough to help Liverpool advance to the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women's FA Cup and started the defeat by Manchester City prior to the international break.

The 25-year-old continued: "It's also nice to score against your old team and that was an important win for the team against West Ham.

"My family were over and that was special. It was just nice to get back on the scoresheet and kind of get back into the flow of things.

"The Rugby Borough game was very tough, a different kind of style of team than we normally play against and conditions and the pitch were tough. It's been a good month and hopefully next month will be good as well."

Attention has now turned to Sunday afternoon's trip to Arsenal in the Women's FA Cup.

Kiernan vowed the Reds will go there and give it everything they have got in hopes of reaching the last four.

"Exciting game, massive quarter-final and we know what we can do on the pitch," she said.

"Some of our play in training has been unbelievable this week and what we can do with a football is crazy, and we know we need to do it on the big day.

"I believe we can do it, we've proved that in the past against these top teams and we can do it again."

Classy and valuable goals with an amazing work ethic.

She has been trying so hard to get back into her normal routine since her bad injury and I feel she has had a fast recovery and works really well with the Liverpool team.

She's been fantastic over the last few weeks.

She has been fantastic and is back to scoring goals.

Very consistent performances.
