Following two months and 10 episodes of must-see television, concluded its explosive Season 1 finale on January 12, . The latest Taylor Sheridan TV creation went out with a bang, setting up a new set of circumstances for Season 2. Although Paramount+ has yet to renew the show for a second season, criminally underutilized star Demi Moore has stated that filming will begin sometime in early 2025. As such, it's time to drill down to see what lies ahead in the riveting oil and gas industry drama.

While Sheridan is known for expanding his TV franchises with bigger and bolder seasons, sequels, and spinoffs, Landman's second chapter could go in several dramatic directions. However, considering what transpired in Season 1, Episode 10, "," it's safe to assume Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) must deal with the fallout of a dying friend, a vengeful drug cartel, and the mysterious arrival of Galino (Andy Garcia).

Landman Star Billy Bob Thornton Talks Going from 1883 to Taylor Sheridan's New Show

Billy Bob Thornton talks 1883, Taylor Sheridan, and how much he loves his foul-mouthed and surprisingly funny character in the new show, Landman.

Other chief characters in the show include Monty Miller (Jon Hamm), M-Tex Oil's CEO who has a long-held alliance with Tommy, Monty's wife Cami (Demi Moore), drug cartel manager Jimenez (Alex Meraz), Jimenez's mysterious boss Galino (Andy Garcia), and several oil crew workers led by Boss (Mustafa Speaks) and Armando (Michael Peña).

As Tommy does all he can to avoid legal culpability, dash lawsuits, and keep M-Tex Oil atop the gas industry, he faces one hurdle after another until the Season 1 finale ups the ante. After suffering his third heart attack, Monty Miller is admitted to a hospital in Fort Worth. Tommy travels to visit him, where he meets Cami and offers condolences. Alas, .

Before passing away, Monty told Tommy that he wanted him to take over M-Tex Oil once he died. With Monty out of the picture in Season 2, Tommy will undoubtedly take more responsibility in averting major legal crises and keeping the company as profitable as possible.

Billy Bob Thornton's Most Underrated Movies, Ranked

Flair for harmonizing vocally aside, Billy Bob Thornton has been in some great movies and is seemingly serially underrated.

Of course, Sheridan is no stranger to returning dead characters through flashbacks in previous shows, leading many fans to assume Monty is not dead. However, Wallace confirmed Monty's demise to Variety in 2025, stating:

"When you take one major player off the board, it opens up opportunities for other players, and I think that’s all I’m at liberty to say at this point."

Whether the "opportunities for other players" will include new cast members, .

Before speculating on Cami and Galino, Billy Bob Thornton addressed potential storylines for Season 2, telling The Hollywood Reporter that, Tommy's reluctance to assume more power and control will surely play a major psychological for the lead character in Season 2.

Thornton also spoke about his desire to have Tommy interact more with Galino in Season 2, the mysterious cartel boss who saved him after a Texas gang abducted and battered him in the season finale. According to Thornton via The Los Angeles Times:

“. Tommy isn’t dealing with henchmen anymore. He knew how to deal with them. But now he’s got a smart guy on the opposite side of the law who is his equal...We’re in a chess match, and I hope that’s explored.”

Casting a bona fide movie star like Andy Garcia and using him sparingly in Season 1 makes little sense. The same goes for Demi Moore, a longtime A-lister currently experiencing an award-winning renaissance for her work in The Substance in 2024. .

Following his character Monty's shocking death in the first season finale, Hamm also hinted in an interview with USA Today that his former on-screen wife Moore will have a far bigger role in the sophomore season, even though he himself will not be returning. The Mad Men alum revealed:

It's pretty cool that Taylor said to (Moore), 'Trust me, I'm going to take care of you. This will be worth your while.' To say the least. Cami's got so much room to grow and show who she really is. It's going to be fascinating to watch.

Speaking of Moore, in 2024 the actor accidentally teased filming dates for Landman Season 2 while attending the Cannes Film Festival in May. When asked about her onscreen dynamic with Jon Hamm, Moore declared (via Deadline):

“I thought we looked really good. [Hamm] was lovely, and I’ve known Billy Bob Thornton for a long time. I’ve already completed the first season, and .”

Though it has yet to be officially renewed, the second season was reportedly seen on the production list on the Film & Television Industry Alliance website, revealing that the filming of Landman is expected to commence on February 28 in Fort Worth, Texas. Landman Review: Taylor Sheridan Strikes Gold with a Reliably Foul Billy Bob Thornton

Don't let the "wannabe-Yellowstone" promos fool you. Thornton's R-rated turn provides great humor in this authentic and well-made series.

Ali Larter also all-but-confirmed to Elle in January 2025 that the second season of Landman already has a production timeline set, with the actress appearing to be just as anxious as fans for Paramount to make its official announcement, asking the network to "just announce it!" Larter also told the publication what she hopes the follow-up season will have in store for her character Angela, who rekindled her romance with ex-husband Tommy:

"I love the relationship between Tommy and Angela. I’ll take more scenes where we are in bed together, where we’re really talking. I think that connection—that unlikely love story—is something really interesting. We’re going to see, as the [next] season unfolds, that Angela’s going to be in a different place in her life again."
