Kwara Takes Over Murder Case Of College Student Hafsoh Against Islamic Cleric | Sahara Reporters

During a court hearing on Thursday, Barrister Issa Zakare, representing the Ministry, informed the magistrate court that a legal opinion from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had confirmed a case against Bello.
The Kwara State Ministry of Justice has officially taken over the prosecution of Abdulrahman Bello, a self-proclaimed Islamic cleric accused of the gruesome murder and dismemberment of Yetunde Lawal Hafsoh, a final-year student at the State College of Education.
During a court hearing on Thursday, Barrister Issa Zakare, representing the Ministry, informed the magistrate court that a legal opinion from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had confirmed a case against Bello.
However, the suspect is now set to be formally arraigned at the High Court.
Magistrate Sanusi Muhammad adjourned the case until March 20, ordering Bello’s continued detention at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin.
Dr. Folorunso Ahmad Hussein, counsel for the victim’s family, supported the ministry’s move, emphasising the need for justice.
He also called on state governors to sign death warrants for those convicted of capital crimes.
Meanwhile, as he was led out of court, Bello pleaded for the release of others arrested alongside him, insisting he alone was responsible for the murder.
The court, however, advised him to present his request before the High Court.
