Kodua Issues Threats Amidst Blame Game Over NPP's Election Loss

In the aftermath of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections, General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong has declared his intention to hold certain individuals within the party accountable for engaging in blame games. In an interview on Kessben TV, Frimpong asserted that he is prepared to address any accusations leveled against him regarding his role in the party’s loss. He specifically warned those he believes are targeting him, stating that he would take action against them.
"I have targeted some people who will accuse me, saying, ‘General Secretary, you were among the people that caused our defeat,’ and they will see what will happen," he stated emphatically.
Frimpong attributed the NPP's defeat to strategic missteps, particularly the delayed selection of their presidential candidate compared to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). He pointed out that the NDC named their candidate months before the NPP, giving them a significant advantage. "NDC named its candidate in 2023, and you name yours in November. It means you have given them free space," he explained.
He emphasized that the election outcome was the result of a series of events and processes leading up to the election day. "We had nine events in 2023. I want this to be on record. Election is a process and not an event. December 7 didn’t just come about; a lot of processes led to December 7," he added, highlighting the importance of a well-coordinated and timely campaign strategy.
The Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, declared John Dramani Mahama of the NDC as the winner of the 2024 election on December 9, 2024. Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes, while the NPP's Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received 4,657,304 votes. In addition to winning the presidential election, the NDC also achieved a historic majority in Parliament.
