A Kumasi High Court has sentenced a 36-year old man, Dominic Afriyie, to Life Imprisonment for murder.

The Court, Presided over by Justice Abdul Razak, sentenced again, Afriyie, alias GH to 120 years in prison in hard labour to run concurrently for armed robbery.

The Court upheld the unanimous verdict of the seven-member Jury that tried Afriyie for the charge of murder of a 43-year old pharmacist and Building Contractor, Michael Dela Agbo Klu and his family at gunpoint at Atasemanso, Kumasi, on 20th November 2021.

According to the Police Prosecution, Afriyie, now convict, during the robbery, stole two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and a cash amount of one thousand 500 Ghana Cedis from the victims and ended up shooting to death Mr. Klu.

It said on 31st December 2021, at 2:20 a.m., a police team arrested Afriyie and three others in a Toyota Corolla saloon car with registration number AS 5970-20 in another armed robbery operation within the same community, Atasomanso.

A search of the vehicle by the Police operation team led to the retrieval of two pistols and two single-barreled shotguns.

Subsequent investigations confirmed that Dominic Afriyie acted alone in the robbery and murder of the Pharmacist.

When he was arraigned before the High Court, he pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

However, after a full trial, the High Court, Presided over by Justice Abdul Razak, and the seven-member jury found him guilty and sentenced accordingly.
