Kerala Health Minister Calls for Enhanced Covid Monitoring as Cases Rise

Kerala Health Minister Veena George has directed all districts to increase Covid-19 surveillance due to a rise in cases across Southeast Asia. Speaking at a meeting with district medical and surveillance officers, George emphasized the need for swift action and vigilant monitoring to curb any potential spread of the virus.
The state of Kerala reported 273 Covid-19 cases in May. Kottayam reported the highest number of cases at 82, followed by Thiruvananthapuram with 73, Ernakulam with 49, Pathanamthitta with 30, and Thrissur with 26.
Minister George highlighted the critical role of early detection and self-care in preventing the spread of infection. Individuals experiencing symptoms such as cough, sore throat, or breathing difficulties are advised to wear masks. Vulnerable populations, including the elderly, pregnant women, and those with underlying health conditions, are urged to wear masks in public spaces and during travel.
Masks remain mandatory within hospital premises, and health workers are required to wear them at all times. The public has also been advised to avoid non-essential hospital visits.
