Karan Johar's 'Takht' Project on Hold, Not Cancelled

Karan Johar’s historical film 'Takht', announced in 2020 with a stellar cast including Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, and Anil Kapoor, is currently on hold but not forgotten. Originally slated for a Christmas 2021 release, the film disappeared from Dharma Productions’ schedule, but continues to generate anticipation.

In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Karan Johar addressed the reasons for the delay, citing “multiple factors” without providing specific details. He affirmed that the project is not abandoned, stating, “It’s a film on my table, and I will make it one day.” He lauded Sumit Roy’s screenplay as his best to date, emphasizing its depth and complexity. 'Takht' is set against the backdrop of Mughal politics, depicting the intense rivalry between brothers Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb.

'Takht' was initially promoted with a teaser showcasing a majestic throne, raising expectations for a grand cinematic production. The pause in production confused many fans, given the film’s impressive cast and scale. However, Johar's confirmation that the project is temporarily on hold has reignited excitement. With its ambitious scope, stellar cast, and historical storyline, 'Takht' remains one of Dharma Productions’ most anticipated films.

Currently, Karan Johar is directing an upcoming action movie, following his 2023 hit 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'. His production lineup includes 'Dhadak 2', 'Naagzilla', and 'Tu Meri Main Tera'.
