Kano APC secretary, Ibrahim Sarina, fails to resign despite full-time appointment as PCC commissioner

Ibrahim Sarina, the secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kano state has failed to resign despite his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu as a full-time commissioner at Public Complaints Commission, PCC.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that on February 5, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced the confirmation of appointment of Mr Sarina as PCC commissioner representing Kano State.

Mr Sarina replaced Yusuf Ata, who was appointed as the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.

However, checks by this newspaper indicated that Mr Sarina had yet to resign as the APC secretary in Kano while holding the PCC office as commissioner, a clear violation to the party’s and country’s constitution.

The APC constitution prohibits dual office holding for officers in the party organs who also hold executive office in government.

Article 17 (iv) of the APC Constitution states: “No officer in any organ of the Party shall hold executive position office in Government concurrently”.

Sources within APC in Kano told DAILY NIGERIAN that Mr Sarina is still involved in all the party’s activities in Kano and had not shown intention to resign.

“He is participating in all the activities of APC. He is in full charge as the secretary despite being appointed by Mr President.

“Sarina is still issuing statements, convening meetings of the party’s exco both in Kano and Abuja. The danger is that this can affect our candidates during election, and can lead to overturning of our victory,” said a source familiar with the development.

When contacted for comment, Mr Sarina promised that he would call call back our reporter as he was in a meeting at the time of the call.

He, however, neither called back nor responded to our reporter’s calls.
