John Holland consortium to get $9 billion Suburban Rail Loop contract

After the federal election, Allan sought to tie the Suburban Rail Loop to Labor’s success in Victoria and insisted the project had community support.

But her comments attracted criticism, including from within her own party.

Opposition major projects spokesman Evan Mulholland said ratings agencies had urged Victoria to control spending, but the fact that the government was pressing ahead with the rail loop showed it had “twisted priorities”.

A Victorian government spokesperson said major construction on SRL East was under way, with 4000 workers employed by the time tunnelling started next year.

“[Opposition Leader] Brad Battin and the Victorian Liberals don’t support the Suburban Rail Loop and they never will,” the spokesperson said.
