Jason Statham's 'A Working Man' Boasts "Fresh" Score for the Action Icon on Rotten Tomatoes

Published 1 week ago3 minute read

The action moviemaking duo of Jason Statham and director David Ayer continue to deliver following last year’s The Beekeeper, with their latest effort, this month’s , now landing a knockout score on Rotten Tomatoes. While The Stath consistently delivers in the action department, his movies don’t always succeed with the critics. Thankfully, A Working Man does both, as the newly revealed “fresh” score confirms.

While not quite reaching the buzzing heights of The Beekeeper’s 71%, A Working Man is not far behind. The action thriller now stands at a solid 67% at time of writing, with critics heaping praise on Statham and Ayer’s return. MovieWeb’s own Julian Roman heaped praise on A Working Man, and can now feel The Stath’s next action franchise incoming...

“Jason Statham and director David Ayer give vile human traffickers a brutal comeuppance in A Working Man, a bone-crushing actioner that delivers exactly what audiences expect. Sylvester Stallone adapts the script from the novel Levon's Trade by Chuck Dixon, the first in a popular series of 12 books. Can you smell the franchise cooking?”

Director Timo Tjahjanto has hinted that a certain villain from 'The Beekeeper' could be resurrected to do battle with The Stath again.

Jonathan Sim of ComingSoon.net found A Working Man to be the ideal Statham vehicle, saying, “If you’re a fan of Statham’s previous work—whether as a transporter, mechanic, beekeeper, or now, a working man—you’ll find plenty to enjoy here.” While Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter praised the action star’s reliable “simmering charisma.”

Pete Hammond of Deadline, meanwhile, favorably compares A Working Man to Statham’s first outing as The Beekeeper, saying, “Here as in Beekeeper, [David Ayer] delivers a tightly wound action showcase for his star and keeps it moving along.” Sadly, some have taken issue with the action outing, with Jesse Hassenger of The Guardian concluding, “The movie’s steady supply of working-class posturing is a bit much, even for the genuinely and charmingly rough-hewn Statham.”

However, for those seeking more of what Jason Statham does best, Bill Bria of Discussing Film has the final say, comparing A Working Man to nothing less than the action classic Rambo and the hit Prime Video series Reacher.

“Together, they have now reached the gonzo heights of The Beekeeper (2024) and the Reacher-meets-Rambo grit of A Working Man.”

Directed by The Beekeeper’s David Ayer, and with a script from Statham’s Expendables co-star Sylvester Stallone, A Working Man stars David Harbour (Stranger Things), Michael Peña (End of Watch), Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Arianna Rivas (The Black Phone 2), Noemi Gonzalez (Selena: The Series), and Emmett J. Scanlan (Peaky Blinders, Kin) alongside Jason Statham. A Working Man is scheduled to land in theaters on March 28, 2025, and you can check out the final trailer and synopsis below.

“Levon Cade left behind a decorated military career in the black ops to live a simple life working construction. But when his boss's daughter, who is like family to him, is taken by human traffickers, his search to bring her home uncovers a world of corruption far greater than he ever could have imagined.”
