The DC Universe of interconnected films and television projects is just beginning, with the first official project in the new continuity being Creature Commandos, released late last year in December 2024. Now, the first feature-length film from the new DC Studios, James Gunn's , is set to be released in theaters. With Peacemaker Season 2 set to debut in August on HBO Max and the Supergirl film having wrapped up filming, the first phase of the DCU, Gods and Monsters, is progressing smoothly. As DC Studios continues to reintroduce iconic heroes, two that have been the center of discussion are Batman and , and thankfully, James Gunn has provided a tidbit of information about the latter.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn (Co-Chairman of DC Studios and the writer and director of Superman) talked about the creative process of the studio and the need to ensure that every script for any potential project is up to par with their high standards. The topic would shift to the status of previously announced projects, with the Themyscira (home of the Amazon warriors)-centered television series Paradise Lost being one of them. Gunn would be brief, saying, "Paradise Lost is moving along. It's slow-moving, but it's moving. And, yeah, I really love that project a lot."

Warner Bros. Reveals the DCU Will Revolve Around These Four Iconic Superheroes
David Zaslav described these four characters as "big asset builders and big differentiators."
Wonder Woman is a character deeply connected to Themyscira, leading to Gunn being asked about the development of the iconic hero's film and whether the series is connected to it. To which Gunn replied:
"Yes. Well, yes and no. Wonder Woman's a separate thing. We're working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman's being written right now. So it's different. I mean, not different. They're connected. She's from f---ing Themyscira, so..."

The continuity and quality of the new DC Universe is something that's clearly important to James Gunn, who has also been vocal about wanting to make these early projects stand on their own without having to see other movies and television shows in the DCU and also existing in the same continuity. So, while Themyscira might be where Wonder Woman is from, fans shouldn't expect there to be explicit connections to the legendary hero that is a part of DC's Trinity. Since the show was first described as being about the Island's dark secrets before Wonder Woman's arrival, it's easy to imagine what loose connections might be there.
Besides Batman and Superman, Wonder Woman is one of the most integral characters in the DC Universe, and has also proven to be a profitable one for Warner Bros. Patty Jenkins' 2017 Wonder Woman film was a critical and financial success, grossing $824 million worldwide and becoming the tenth highest-grossing film of that year. While its sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, would not be as successful, there is still plenty of potential for a new iteration of the superhero.
The DCU is growing quickly under the new leadership at DC Studios, and while some less prominent characters and groups like Clayface and the Creature Commandos are getting the chance to shine in these earlier projects, it's only a matter of time until the mainline DC heroes join David Corenswet's Superman on the big screen. Gunn and Safran don't seem to be in a rush, though, preferring to lock down a good story first. Which, we can surely all agree, is the right way to do it.
