Asked about what he’s doing next in his career following the release of the long-awaited horror sequel 28 Years Later, Aaron Taylor-Johnson cryptically replied, “I can’t talk about it,” before being ushered away. The actor, who is best known for roles in the likes of Kick-Ass, Bullet Train, and Kraven the Hunter has long been rumored for the role of James Bond, often finding himself at the top of bookies' lists. A list of the five top directors wanted for the next era of the action hero has reportedly been revealed.

“I wonder how he likes his martinis,” asked one user on X/Twitter, with another adding, “it’s time” alongside a familiar clip of Pierce Brosnan shooting down the barrel. “Bond James Bond,” says another user, while another speculates on plans for the reboot, saying, “He will be Bond, Nolan will direct (who likes using the same actors) it will be set as a period piece movie of when it was written (hence killing off the old Bond) will get rid of digital technologies that are a narrative nightmare and replace with old mechanical gadgets.”

Not only does Aaron Taylor-Johnson have the blessing of former 007 Pierce Brosnan, but further speculation that he has been chosen to lead the action franchise was fueled recently after the 28 Years Later star signed a new deal with the franchise’s official watchmakers, Omega. Of course, we still don’t really know for sure, but with Amazon, who have now taken over creative control of the 007 franchise from long-time producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, reportedly fast-tracking the project and aiming to shoot next year, it won’t be long before we know who will lead Bond into his next chapter.

While we wait, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is currently proving his worth as a leading man in the zombie sequel 28 Years Later. Following on from 2002’s hugely influential 28 Days Later and its 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, 28 Years Later is directed by Danny Boyle, who co-wrote the screenplay with Alex Garland, and stars Taylor-Johnson alongside Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O'Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding. The horror outing was met with a rave review from MovieWeb’s Julian Roman, who declared it “a Horror Masterpiece that Shatters Already High Expectations.” You can check out the official synopsis for 28 Years Later below.

"Academy Award®-winning director Danny Boyle and Academy Award®-nominated writer Alex Garland reunite for 28 Years Later, a terrifying new story set in the world created by 28 Days Later. It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well."
