A winter storm has been bringing rain and snow across New Mexico Wednesday. Most of the snow will end overnight, but some snow showers will stick around for parts of the state through Thursday.

A dynamic winter storm has been moving across New Mexico Wednesday. It has brought bursts of locally heavy snowfall to western, northern, and central New Mexico. Even Albuquerque picked up snowfall Wednesday, with thunder snow and even a landspout tornado this afternoon! Heavier snow has been falling this evening around Santa Fe and in the northern mountains, along with southern Colorado, where the snow is causing some icy roadways.

The rain and snow is beginning to end across New Mexico tonight and will mostly taper off overnight. However ,some snow will stick around the northern mountains overnight and into Thursday morning. Snow will continue to fall in the northern mountains and far northern/northeastern New Mexico through Thursday evening as the storm continues to move out of the region. A few spotty showers are also likely Thursday afternoon for northeastern and eastern parts of the state. The rest of New Mexico will see mostly sunny and breezy weather tomorrow.

Calmer and drier weather returns statewide Friday, which will also begin a fast warming trend. High temperatures will be back above average Friday afternoon and only continue to climb into the weekend. Record and near-record high temperatures are likely early next week, with southern New Mexico climbing into the 80s and the Albuquerque Metro making it close to 70°.
