Insecurity: Lawmaker backs Zulum's claims as DSS interrogates arrested soldiers

Chairman, House Committee on Intelligence, Hon. Ahmed Satomi has re-echoed Governor Babagana Zulum’s claims that politicians, soldiers and the Police act as informants to Boko Haram.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Thursday, Satomi hinged his submission on Borno State’s reliable intel, which, according to him, has been proven right over time, adding that Governor Zulum was speaking based on facts and not rumours.

Representing Jere Federal Constituency, the lawmaker added that, as the Chief Security Officer of the State, Governor Zulum knows where the shoe pinches, pointing out that he has been vindicated by recent attacks on military posts by the terrorist group after earlier criticism from government security agencies.

”His Excellency, is the chief security of the state; he is on ground and has more intel. He is one person, in the last couple of days, who has information on the military that was attacked. Prior to this, he said attention is needed in the northeast and was criticised by some government agencies, but you can see he has been vindicated for what he said. Being the chief security officer of the state, it means that he knows something.

”I think, being the chief security of the state, he has the intel made available to him, and I am sure he will discuss that at a certain level,” he said
The House of Representatives committee chairman on intelligence revealed that some soldiers have not been arrested and are now undergoing interrogation at the Department of State Security (DSS).

He added that insecurity cannot be politicised, hence the government’s resolve to expose the so-called saboteurs working for Boko Haram at the end of DSS findings.

”A lot of soldiers have been detained and are being subjected to interrogations by the DSS, but according to the ethics of intelligence, everything cannot be brought to public light. I cannot disclose any info in the public based on ethics of intelligence, but intelligence organisations are on top of this, and all of them will be brought to book,” the lawmaker said

It would be recalled that Governor Zulum accused certain Nigerian politicians and members of the armed forces of acting as informants for Boko Haram insurgents. Zulum made these allegations during an interview on Breakfast Central, a program on News Central Television, on Wednesday.

“We have informants and collaborators within the Nigerian armed forces, among politicians, and within the communities. We plan to strengthen our intelligence and address this issue decisively,” Zulum stated.
