In the Wolverine’s latest game, they defeated Oregon in Ann Arbor with a final score of 80-76. In that game, junior Danny Wolf led the way for Michigan finishing with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Wolf transferred from Yale at the end of the last season and is known for his aggression on both ends of the court. He currently leading Michigan in rebounds, averaging 10 a game.
Center Vladislav Goldin is currently leading the Wolverines in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game. Goldin was just recently named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Top 10 list. Michigan has only two conference losses and these come from Minnesota and Purdue.
The Wolverines are led by head coach Dusty May who is in his first year coaching at Michigan. He comes from Florida Atlantic where he had six straight winning seasons and it is not looking like he is going to break that streak anytime soon.
In Indiana’s most recent game, they lost on the road to Wisconsin with a final score of 76-64. The Hoosiers had an extremely slow start that was too detrimental to come back from. Center Oumar Ballo had a very quiet game, with only 4 points, which may have contributed to Indiana’s difficulty scoring. Mackenzie Mgbako led the way with 15 points and the second-highest scorer was Luke Goode, coming off the bench, with 11 points. Also coming off the bench were Trey Galloway and Bryson Tucker who contributed nine points each so a change to the starting lineup is not an unreasonable prediction going into Saturday’s game.
The biggest news coming out of the Indiana athletic department at the moment is the announcement that head coach Mike Woodson will be stepping down at the end of the season. Athletic director Scott Dolson announced on Friday afternoon that Woodson would be retiring, but remaining the head coach for the duration of the 24-25 season.
Indiana will be returning to Assembly Hall after losing two games on the road. The team is currently sitting on a four-game losing streak so a win on Saturday afternoon is a must. It will be extremely interesting to see how the team is received by Hoosier fans considering the announcement about Woodson on Friday as well as how they are currently performing.
