Indian AI scientist and music producer making waves internationally with his single 'I Don't Think (Infinity Wave)'
Indian-born, UK-based
AI scientist
and music producer
Dr Somdip Dey
, known by his stage name InteliDey, is redefining
electronic music
with his latest single, “I Don’t Think (Infinity Wave).” The track introduces a new sub-genre called Infinity Wave, blending Future Rave’s driving intensity, Melodic Techno’s hypnotic depth, and Progressive House’s emotional storytelling. This innovative fusion reflects both his expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and his passion for music, making waves internationally.
Infinity Wave is not just another electronic dance music (EDM) genre but a data-driven, AI-inspired creation. As a lecturer in Data Science at York St John University (UK) and an MIT Innovator Under 35 in AI & Robotics, Dr Dey utilised AI-powered analysis to examine the evolution of electronic music trends. His AI model studied festival lineups, streaming data, media coverage, and audience engagement to identify which production techniques and sonic elements were gaining traction in the industry. The findings revealed that Melodic Techno and Future Rave were the fastest-growing genres, inspiring him to create a genre that captures their best elements while adding a progressive storytelling layer.
While AI helped him identify emerging trends, the track itself was produced entirely using traditional DAW-based techniques in FL Studio, reaffirming his belief that AI can be a tool for analysis but cannot replace human creativity. The track’s structure evolves dynamically, incorporating rolling basslines, euphoric lead synths, immersive atmospheres, and a dramatic key change at the 3:19 mark, reminiscent of Deadmau5’s signature melodic shifts. This continuous evolution ensures that the listener remains engaged, mirroring his experience with ADHD and the need for music that is constantly stimulating and unpredictable.
Beyond its production, “I Don’t Think (Infinity Wave)” carries a deeper narrative. The lyrics—“I don’t think you’re gonna set me free, just the way I want it… I don’t think you’re gonna care for me, just the way I need it”—explore the evolving relationship between humans and artificial intelligence. Dr Dey, who has extensively researched AI ethics and its impact on society, draws parallels between AI’s increasing autonomy and human dependence on technology. The track’s message highlights the dual nature of AI, where it offers convenience but also fosters reliance, posing questions about how technology shapes human emotions and interactions.
While making waves in electronic music, Dr Somdip Dey has already left a lasting mark in the world of technology. With over 100 intellectual properties to his name, he co-developed the QR code-based authentication system, later mandated by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to prevent fake degrees in India. In 2014, he pioneered the world’s first crowd food-sharing platform, helping individuals share surplus food and combat food waste. He later co-developed the Nosh app, recognised as the world’s first AI-powered food waste reduction app, earning him global recognition. His contributions have led to prestigious accolades, including being named MIT Innovator Under 35 in AI & Robotics, a Life Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and an Outstanding Achiever at the India UK Achievers Honours. In addition to his work at York St John University, he is a Professor of Practice (AI/ML) and the Danah Zohar Chair Professor of Quantum Philosophy at Woxsen University, Hyderabad.
Dr Dey’s work at York St John University has also helped bridge the gap between AI, data science, and music production, offering real-world applications for AI in creative industries. He encourages students from computer science, data science, and music backgrounds to explore how AI can enhance music analysis, trend prediction, and composition while ensuring that human creativity remains at the core of artistic expression. By introducing Infinity Wave, he showcases how interdisciplinary collaboration between technology and the arts can drive innovation.
Looking ahead, Dr Dey is actively expanding the Infinity Wave movement. He is working on collaborations with other producers, developing immersive live performances, and hosting workshops on
AI in music production
. He also plans to explore sync licensing opportunities, aiming to place Infinity Wave tracks in films, gaming soundtracks, and futuristic media projects. Additionally, a remix project is in the pipeline, inviting producers worldwide to reinterpret “I Don’t Think (Infinity Wave)” in their own styles, further pushing the genre’s boundaries.
As Infinity Wave gains momentum, Dr Dey is cementing his place as a pioneer at the intersection of AI, technology, and electronic music. With his latest track, he not only challenges the conventional structures of EDM but also raises critical discussions on the role of AI in shaping human creativity. His journey from AI-powered research to crafting a genre-defining sound underscores the evolving relationship between data science and the future of music.
"I Don’t Think (Infinity Wave)” is now available on all major streaming platforms, inviting listeners to experience the sound of the future and immerse themselves in the ever-evolving world of Infinity Wave.
