Published 1 month ago2 minute read

As Imo State prepares to make an incursion into the stock market, the State Executive Council (EXCO) rose from its meeting yesterday, directing all ministries, departments and agencies to submit details of the state government assets to the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Chuck Chuckuemeka.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Oguwike Nwachuku, after the meeting presided over by the Governor, Hope Uzodimma, at the Government House, Owerri.

The statement reads: “All ministries, departments and agencies in Imo State have been directed to forward details of every government asset, including stocks in their custody, to the office of the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Chuck Chuckuemeka.

“The directive was part of the decisions reached from the weekly State Executive Council meeting.”

The statement informed that the Commissioner was working on the consolidation of all assets for this purpose, stressing: “The Imo State Ministry of Finance under Mr Chuckuemeka is working on the consolidation of all assets of government under the umbrella of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFIN), preparatory to the enlisting in the Stock market.

The statement noted that, apart from the decision made by the Exco to domicile all government assets with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, there was a directive for the immediate reassignment of staff from the Imo State Housing Corporation and the Imo State Hospital Management Board to their respective parent ministries.

It disclosed that the council also approved the construction of 17 new roads, involving all three senatorial districts of the state, and the building of the state’s internal revenue generation complex, despite the wet season.

The council also mandated the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Development, Ralph Nwosu, to arrange for the commissioning of the completed projects.

Some of the roads were receiving rapid attention despite the rains, including the Ihiala-Banana Junction Road, the Orlu-Akokwa Road, and the Owerri-Umuahia Road, among others. The statement stated: “Many of these roads have been completed and are waiting for commissioning.”

It stated that the council approved the designation of the Solicitor General, Mrs Gloria Egwuagu, as the Acting Attorney General pending further notice. The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Cyprain Akaolisa, was relieved of his position some weeks ago by the governor.
