IMD issues orange alert for rain from tomorrow | Goa News - Times of India
Panaji: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Goa, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state from June 12 to June 14. The weather department warned residents of possible flooding, disruptions in normal life, and potential damage due to the expected rains.According to the IMD, strong thunderstorms, lightning, and surface winds with speeds of 30-40 km/h, gusting up to 50 km/h, were expected at isolated locations across both North and South Goa. The weather system responsible for the downpour is the shear zone running along at 15°N, stretching from north Tamil Nadu to the south Maharashtra coast. This zone, situated between 3.1 and 4.5km above sea level, is contributing to the increased rainfall across the state.“Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over both North and South Goa districts during this period,” the IMD stated.
