Speaking outside Central Police Station on Monday, June 9, Kanja explained the main reason why Ojwang was arrested by DCI detectives.
Kanja stated that Ojwang was among the few people who were arrested following a complaint filed by Deputy IG Eliud Langat.
The police boss disclosed that Langat had launched a complaint claiming Langat and others had tarnished his name online.
"The reason as to why the late Ojwang was arrested, together with a few others, is because there was a complaint that had been launched by the DIG KPS about his name being tarnished, so it is on that basis that investigations were actually being carried out because he also has a right to be protected by the same law," Kanja said.
Kanja further dismissed claims that the blogger was not booked at the Central Police Station following his arrest.
He disclosed that Albert was arrested in Homa Bay and transported to Nairobi, where he was booked at Central Police Station under OB number 136/7/6 of 2025 at 21.12pm.
"On Friday Albert Ojwang was arrested in Homa Bay by DCI detectives for the offence of false publication. Records indicate that he was transported to Nairobi, where he was questioned by DCI officers on Saturday. He was later booked at Central Police Station under OB number 136/7/6 of 2025 at 21:35 hrs," the police boss added.
Meanwhile, Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) Chairperson Isaac Hassan confirmed that investigations into the incident had commenced.
Hassan has vowed to ensure that justice will be served to the deceased's family.
"I watched mzee Ojwang' on TV crying. Any parent would feel the same pain when you have lost your son. I want to assure him and the public that IPOA will do everything possible to ensure that justice is served for the family,' Hassan said.

In related development, former deputy president linked Lagat to Ojwang's mysterious death while in custody.
In a bold statement on his social media page, Gachagua demanded that Lagat take responsibility for Ojwang's death.
According to Gachagua, Lagat was the complainant in the case that was facing the blogger; hence, he must be held accountable for what happened.
Gachagua demanded Lagat's immediate suspension, arguing that the interdiction of senior police officers at the Central Police Station was only meant to hoodwink Kenyans.
In his statement, Gachagua accused the deputy IG of running torture chambers at Kamukunji and Central Police Stations.
