I've not seen any reason to dump PDP, Odii replies APC
The 2023 Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has dismissed speculations about his alleged plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating unequivocally that he remains committed to the PDP.
Odii, a business mogul and philanthropist, made the clarification in a statement made available to The Guardian on Friday in Abakaliki.
He emphasised that he has not seen any compelling ideological, political, or developmental reason to leave the PDP, stressing that he is not considering joining the APC now or in the foreseeable future.
His response follows comments credited to the Ebonyi State APC Chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, who recently claimed during an interaction with journalists that Odii and other political figures were contemplating a move to the ruling party.
“My attention has been drawn to public remarks credited to the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Mr. Stanley Okoro Emegha, suggesting that I, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, am considering a move to join the APC.”
“Let me categorically state that I am not considering joining the APC, now or in the foreseeable future.”
Odii reiterated his commitment to the core values of the PDP, noting that the party continues to represent the ideals of purposeful leadership, people-oriented governance, and genuine democratic development.
“My commitment remains firmly with the ideals of purposeful leadership, people-oriented governance, and genuine democratic progress. These values continue to guide my actions and political engagements,” he said.
“I believe in building a society anchored on justice, equity, and service, not opportunism or political convenience.”
While acknowledging Chief Emegha’s right to promote his party, Odii urged political leaders to avoid making speculative statements capable of misleading the public or distorting the political landscape of Ebonyi State.
He concluded by reaffirming his dedication to the development of the state and appreciation for the support of the people:
“My focus remains on contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of our dear state and nation, through platforms and processes that truly reflect the will and welfare of the people.
“I appreciate the continued support, trust, and encouragement from my numerous supporters, well-wishers, and the good people of Ebonyi State.”
