I need help to revamp my shop - Atta Ayi's mechanic
Yaw Asante Agyekum was recently released from prison after being wrongfully convicted
Yaw Asante Agyekum, a mechanic recently acquitted after serving 23 years for a wrongful conviction linked to the infamous robber, Atta Ayi, is appealing for support to rebuild his life.
In an interview with Accra-based GHOne TV on Monday, June 9, 2025, he urged Ghanaians to assist him in resuming his mechanic work, which he was forced to abandon more than two decades ago.
Agyekum shared his current struggles and called on the public to help him restore his old mechanic shop and regain financial stability.
When asked about seeking state compensation, he firmly stated that handling such legal matters would be the responsibility of his lawyer.
He emphasised that his primary focus is on reviving his trade rather than engaging in legal battles.
“I have no choice but to work, even at the age of 47. As for compensation, I prefer not to get involved — that is my lawyer's responsibility. My freedom is what matters most to me, especially the moment I reunited with my children. I can't specify an exact amount, but my main goal is to rebuild my mechanic shop and return to work," Agyekum said in the interview.
