I helped cause Nigeria's problems, now I must help fix them - El-Rufai
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai says he feels responsible for the current state of Nigeria and has promised to help remove the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
El-Rufai, in an interview with AriseTV on Monday, slammed the government of President Bola Tinubu, calling it a failure and a danger to the country.
He said he was part of the team that helped the APC come to power in 2015, but now believes it was a mistake.
The former governor said he has no plans to contest for office but is working with other political leaders to form a strong opposition that can defeat the APC.
“Having contributed to bringing about this tragedy to Nigeria, I feel I must contribute to correcting it. I have no personal ambition. I am 65. I should be retired. But I want to ensure we remove this evil before it destroys Nigeria,” El-Rufai said.
He confirmed ongoing talks with Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and others to agree on a single political platform, either by forming a new party or using an existing one.
He also claimed that the APC is trying to weaken opposition parties by creating internal problems in them.
He added, “What the government, the ruling party, and the government have been doing is to create problems in the opposition parties by recruiting and financing viruses to multiply. This is what is happening in the Labour Party, the PDP, and even the NNPP.”
