Eugene Boakye Antwin [L] and former President Akufo-Addo

Former Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi has stated categorically that he holds no grudges against former President Akufo-Addo.

According to the outspoken politician, he only had disagreement with the president which is public knowledge when the latter declined calls to reshuffle his cabinet when Ghanaians were generally not happy with the economic situation at the time.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Peace FM on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Eugene Boakye Antwi stated that despite his open disagreement with the then president, he cannot fail to trumpet the many successes chalked by President Akufo Addo.

"I had my disagreement with the president because he did not want to reshuffle his ministers. That was the disagreement and I still stand by it, and I think the Oquaye report has commented about this. I have nothing personal against him. That was my disagreement with my president as an MP, apart from that there's nothing personal.

"I supported him to be president, but when he took office there were certain decisions I was expecting him to take or make which he failed to do. Because of that I disagreed with him and I made it known. Because of that, the good that President Akufo-Addo did I should not say it, is that what Ghanaians are telling me? He was successful as a president but if you were to ask him if he would have done something differently upon hindsight, he would have responded yes, that is what makes him human."

Eugene Boakye Antwi was one of the leading NPP MPs who called for the dismissal of then Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in 2022. But in response, then president, Akufo-Addo urged the MPs to hold on till Ghana concludes negotiations with the IMF.

It was until February 2024 that then President Akufo-Addo sacked Ken Ofori-Atta his cousin.
