Consider this a guide to dressing like – and therefore coming close to the bliss of embodying – Dakota Johnson on vacation.

She might be several thousand miles away from the glare of a red carpet, but Johnson’s surf-and-turf look was just as much a fashion moment – bringing together just about every It-item on Vogue’s collective summer wishlist: a triangle bikini, Dôen floral skirt, Alaïa ballet flats and a rare, bamboo-handled Gucci tote born on the brand’s autumn/winter 2025 catwalk.

Those mesh ballerinas are, at this point, the hardest-working item in Johnson’s suitcase – resurfacing beneath a Leset midi-skirt and Toteme tank top during a trip to Rome. The actress finished the look, Cinecittà style, with cat-eye Bottega Veneta sunglasses, a one-off Ophelia Eve necklace and a Celine Triomphe clutch monogrammed with her own name.

Johnson leant full-tilt into White Isle bohemianism while enjoying a moment of respite in Ibiza’s southern bay: a semi-transparent dress accessorised with a tangle of pendant necklaces, chains and lockets. “The look felt like it could have been picked up from one of the local markets,” wrote Vogue’s Anna Cafolla, “and felt right for sitting beachside, retiring to the club for a long lunch of chargrilled fish and padron peppers, and aimlessly wandering the streets of Ibiza town.”

I didn’t even know Johnson was friends with Hudson, let alone Ricky Martin, whom the actors ran into while enjoying an al fresco dinner at what Trip Advisor describes as “a very luxurious fish restaurant”, Pierluigi, in Rome. And so “la dolce vita” met “la vida loca”, with Johnson in an floral-embroidered Bode top, wide-legged Agolde jeans and a pair of The Row’s knotted leather sandals.
