In the world of superhero movies, every fan has their favorite actor for a particular role. Christian Bale and Val Kilmer are considered to be the best Batmen, Heath Ledger's The Joker has become timeless, and Tom Holland perfected Spider-Man on the big screen. In the world of , there are two die-hard groups: those who love Christopher Reeves' classic red-trunk-wearing hero, and 's darker and grittier version from Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. With David Corenswet set to play Clark Kent in James Gunn's Superman, Zack Snyder fans are once again letting their thoughts and opinions about Cavill's replacement be known.
Zack Snyder fans flooded X (formerly Twitter) with their thoughts about the newest Superman trailer, and unsurprisingly, they're unanimously negative. "Name a bigger downgrade," wrote @S__itmeanshope, along with the infamous hashtags "#RestoreTheSnyderVerse" and "#HenryCavillSuperman." Another highlighted the clip where Superman (Corenswet) punches a henchman's teeth out of his mouth. "This is Flash level CGI," '@ab0a2e8604b549f's post began. "And did Superman literally just punched [a] human, that man's head should've been non-existent."

The 'Superman' actor will be making an appearance in another highly anticipated DC Studios project.
Following the trailer's release, #HenryCavillSuperman immediately began trending again on X as the Snyder cult continued its virtual rallying cry of "restore the Snyderverse." One of the most confusing arguments came from @TPCQ2024, who used an AI-generated image of Henry Cavill's Superman to imitate a scene from the new trailer, writing, "He did it first. And better." This is far from the first time the Snyder cult has caused Henry Cavill to trend on social media. In fact, after each new piece of promotional material for Superman, there is a heavy influx of anti-James Gunn posts on platforms like X. "#FireJamesGunn," "#BringBackZackSnyder," and "#HenryCavillSuperman," are all popular hashtags used by fans.

As well as spewing negativity on social media, those who are desperate for Henry Cavill's Superman to return are also organizing a boycott of the DCU's new iteration. Superman is set to release in theaters on July 11, and Zack Snyder fans will be staying home in force to express their displeasure at David Corenswet's casting. However, despite the passion of Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill fans, the boycott has barely made a dent in Superman's pre-release sales. Tickets are now available for Superman, and Prime Video even released early-bird tickets to select screenings on July 8. The early screenings were so popular that demand crashed the Fandango ticket website.
As well as literally breaking the internet, Superman has already broken a box office record. The film has acquired the most first-day ticket sales of any movie in 2025. This includes the MCU's Fantastic Four: First Steps, which will be released later that month (July 25). Both Superman and Fantastic Four: First Steps are expected to be the big event movies of the summer. Superman will usher in a new age for the DC Universe, kickstarting the rebooted franchise's big screen adventures. It is followed up by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow in 2026.
