Heatwave eases, but temp above normal in city

Mumbai: After a brief spell of

heatwave conditions

, Mumbai saw some relief, but temperatures continue to stay above normal, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).
On Sunday, IMD's Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1°C, which was 2.1°C above normal, while the Colaba observatory registered 32.8°C, which was 1.6°C above normal. Minimum temperature also remained unusually high, with Colaba at 24.8°C (+2.8°C above normal) and Santacruz at 23°C (+3.1°C above normal). Humidity levels stood at 67% in Colaba and 57% in Santacruz, adding to the discomfort.
Until last week, Mumbai experienced a sharp spike in daytime temperatures, with levels soaring 5-6°C above normal around 38 degrees Celsius. IMD even issued a heatwave warning for Feb 25-26, as maximum temperature touched uncomfortable highs. While there was a slight dip in recent days, the city is still warmer than usual for this time of the year.
An official from the meteorology department said: "While the heatwave has subsided, Mumbai is still experiencing warm, dry conditions, which is typical for this period." TNN
