Maus Kajura was found dead in the toilet of the rental apartments he shared with a friend and his younger brother. His death left many in pain and confusion.

Zakaria recalled their final interaction before receiving the heartbreaking news:

"It is true that around 11 a.m. he was found dead. The cause is unknown because when we woke up in the morning, everything seemed fine. We talked and had breakfast before I began preparing to attend to other duties. I said goodbye and left him waiting for the bucket to fill with water so he could take a bath,” Boniface Zakaria said.

Not long after Zakaria arrived at his destination, he received a distressing phone call.

A neighbour called to ask about Maus, and Zakaria explained that he had left him at home.

"He told me Maus had been found dead. I immediately hung up and called his younger brother, whom I had also left at home that morning. I phoned him, and he confirmed the shattering news," he said.

Another neighbour, who had gone to use the toilet, found Maus unresponsive. The neighbour alerted the younger brother, who then informed the one that had called Zakaria.

"I asked if there was anything I could do to help, but there was nothing I could do," Zakaria added.

The police arrived at the scene, followed the proper procedures, and took the body to the mortuary.

Kajura’s remains will be transported to his home in Bukoba ahead of the third-year student's burial.

“He never told me anything that was bothering him. We talked about everything and anything. After I received the news, I contacted his friends to check if any of them had noticed anything unusual or if he had mentioned anything troubling. All of them said they had not heard of anything that was bothering him recently.
“When I woke up, he had already woken up too. Before I left, I joked with him that I was going to a small meeting, and he suggested I wear a coat and tie. From our conversation, he seemed fine. Even the neighbours confirmed he did not look troubled when they saw him heading to shower. He greeted and laughed with them,” Zakaria said.
