In a spectacular celebration of unity, culture, and regional integration, the National Troupe of Nigeria (NTN) delivered a breathtaking performance at the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The event was held at the Eko Hotel, Victoria island Lagos, to mark a significant milestone in West Africa’s history, commemorating five decades of cooperation, peace, and progress.

The NTN’s mesmerising dance drama, titled, A Monumental Movement, written by Abiola Segun Williams and directed by Isioma Williams, was the highlight of the evening.

With colourful costumes representing the 15 ECOWAS member states, the troupe brought the audience to their feet with a dynamic blend of modern and traditional dances that showcased the rich cultural heritage of West Africa.

The performance was a testament to the power of unity, collective self-sufficiency, and regional development, echoing the ECOWAS treaty signed on May 28, 1975.

The dance drama’s themes of intentionality, continuity, and collaboration among nations resonated deeply with the audience, comprising dignitaries, heads of state, diplomats and the President of Nigeria, Ahmed Tinubu

The NTN’s artistic director, Hajj Kaltume Bulama Gana and the director/ choreographer skillfully wove together powerful rhythms, poetry, and performance, celebrating the spirit of West African unity and the region’s aspirations for socio-economic progress and impactful globalisation.

This milestone celebration is a testament to ECOWAS’s enduring commitment to regional integration, peace, and prosperity.

The National Troupe of Nigeria’s outstanding performance has set a high standard for cultural diplomacy and artistic excellence in the region.
