Giants will be on HBO's 'Hard Knocks' series about NFC East - Newsday

The Giants thought they were done with “Hard Knocks” after last season. But the HBO program apparently wasn’t done with them.

A year after being featured last summer, the Giants will be back as part of “Hard Knocks: In Season with the NFC East.” The program debuts in December with the Giants featured along withs the Cowboys, Eagles and Commanders.

Hard Knocks’ main show returns in August featuring the Bills in training camp. The Giants might be a side character since they travel to Buffalo on Aug. 9 for their preseason opener.

But it was last season’s appearance that proved memorable for bad reasons. It highlighted general manager Joe Schoen’s decision to let running back Saquon Barkley leave in free agency. President/CEO John Mara said on the show he’d lose sleep if Barkley wound up with the Eagles

Of course, that’s what happened. Barkley helped the Eagles win their second Super Bowl and was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year after becoming the ninth running back to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season.

It left the Giants open to national criticism as they floundered to a 3-14 record. Now the show returns with the team perhaps in a strange position this winter.

With the league’s hardest schedule, will Russell Wilson or rookie Jaxson Dart be quarterback in December? Will coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen still be employed if things haven’t improved?

It’s all fair to ponder. The NFC East, however, will be compelling with the Eagles trying to repeat, the Commanders with defending Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels and the Cowboys naturally attracting attention.

That leaves the Giants, who could have other worries besides thinking about how they look on TV. But for better or worse, how they look and more will once again be on display for all to see.
