Former Assin Central lawmaker and 2028 NPP flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong, has been captured in a viral video recording making what some netizens have described as “religious rants” against former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Addressing a group of people, Kennedy Agyapong questioned the legitimacy of the return of Dr Bawumia to lead the New Patriotic Party.

Speaking to what appeared to be a section of the NPP grassroots who have thrown their weight behind him, Kennedy Agyapong appealed to the party to elect him in their next internal election.

“If they want power, Ghanaians say it is only Kennedy Agyapong they will vote for.”

"Do you want to remain home for another 4 years or 8 years? Are you ready for that? Let us listen to what the people are saying. Let us listen to what Ghanaians are saying”, he said.

Kennedy Agyapong further exclaimed that "the churches spoke”, purporting Ghanaians are not ready for a non-Christian to lead them.

“In this church we are in, they spoke. I am speaking in parables . The church spoke but we did not listen and we have seen what has happened”, he emphasised.

Meanwhile, a number of social media users have reacted to Agyapong’s comments, finding it to be seditious and divisive.

"This man has nothing good to offer the NPP and Ghana. Anytime he opens his mouth to campaign, his message demonstrates division on religious and tribal lines. This stinks in a country like ours," a concerned Ghanaian replied on X.
