Friday, January 17 forecast: Take advatntage of today's warmth, very cold this weekend
We’re starting the day in a great position to warm up quickly. The upper 30s this morning will rise to the mid to upper 50s this afternoon. A strong southwest wind gusting over 30 mph will go a long way towards warming us up. Skies begin sunny but clouds will fill the skies as the day goes on.

Rain showers will break out by mid-afternoon, mainly along and south of I-44. The showers will gradually move out Friday evening with some drizzle still possible through midnight. The rain will move out before the cold air arrives, so icy weather is not expected.
Temperatures will tumble through sunrise Saturday and it’ll be a cold afternoon. Temperatures will likely remain below freezing on Saturday marking day 1 of our intensely cold stretch of days.
Highs on Sunday and Monday will be in the teens with morning lows near zero on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Wind chills will dip below zero at times with this round of dangerous cold weather.
Stay warm and cover your skin from cold exposure for the next several days. This danger will extend to pets as well. Please provide a warm and safe place for them to get them through the frigid pattern.
It’s unlikely that we’ll see any snow during this cold spell in the Ozarks, but there could be a winter storm impacting areas along the Gulf Coast. The storm is expected to sweep along the Gulf and then up through the Carolinas Monday through Wednesday of next week. There is a chance that wintry weather could occur as far south as I-10 from Houston to Baton Rouge!
The cold pattern is expected to relax by Wednesday of next week with above-freezing highs through the end of next week. However, this may be just another intermission from the cold as the overall pattern supports a healthy supply of arctic air across Canada with more intrusions expected later in the month.
