Fresh burst of snowfall in higher reaches, light rains sweep plains in Uttarakhand - The Times of India
Dehradun: The higher reaches of Uttarakhand received a fresh spell of snowfall while light rains hit the plains, bringing a sharp dip in temperatures across the state on Thursday.
Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli, including popular tourist destinations such as Harsil, Kharsali, and Auli, witnessed light to moderate snowfall.
The Char Dham towns of Yamunotri, Badrinath, and Gangotri also experienced snowfall since Wednesday night. In plains, Dehradun experienced intermittent showers throughout the day.
The maximum temperature in Dehradun reached 20°C, which is three degrees below normal, while Pantnagar recorded a below-normal high of 23°C. Meanwhile, the mercury dropped further in Mukteshwar, where the maximum temperature remained at 13.1°C. Regional meteorological centre said that the wet spell is expected to continue until Thursday night, with dry weather likely from today onwards.
Senior scientist at the regional met centre Rohit Thapliyal described the weather condition as a short-wet spell.
The cold conditions, however, are likely to persist for a few more days, offering a scenic retreat for tourists visiting the snow-clad hills.
