Lucknow: Five members of a family lost their lives, and four others sustained injuries when a speeding UPSRTC bus collided with an auto-rickshaw in UP's Sant Kabir Nagar on Tuesday.The incident occurred at 8:45 pm when the family, residents of Budha village, was returning home in an auto-rickshaw. A bus approaching from the Basti side rammed into the auto-rickshaw with great force. According to police, the victims who died on the spot were identified as Sarvjeet (32), his 3-year-old son Arjun, and Bhikhna Devi (45). Several others, including Murati Devi (35), Sarita (30), Geeta (40), Indrajeet, and Amar, sustained injuries.
The injured were rushed to the district hospital.Later, Murati Devi, wife of Raju, succumbed to her injuries at Gorakhpur Medical College, where she was referred along with two others in a critical condition. One more person died, whose identity is being ascertained. Sant Kabir Nagar superintendent of police Sandeep Kumar Meena said that the post-mortems are being conducted, and further legal action is underway. "The bus has been seized, and the driver has also been taken into custody," he said. The administration is also investigating whether negligence or rash driving led to the crash.
