Five dead as car crashes head-on with govt bus in Tamil Nadu

KARUR: At least five

people

died after their car collided head-on with a government bus near Kulithalai in Tamil Nadu’s Karur district around 3am on Wednesday.
The impact of the crash completely destroyed the car, leaving all

five

passengers dead on the spot.
According to police, the victims included four members of the same family and their driver, all from Coimbatore district.
Among them were two women and three men. The govt bus was headed to Tirupur, while the car was en route to Trichy when the accident occurred.

Upon receiving information, Kulithalai police rushed to the scene and alerted the fire department, as the car had stuck under the bus, making it difficult to retrieve the bodies.
After an hour and a half of efforts, the fire department managed to recover the victims, who were trapped in the wreckage. Their bodies were then sent to Kulithalai govt hospital for post-mortem examination.
The deceased were identified as Selvaraj (52) of Kuniyamuthur, Coimbatore, his wife Kalaiyarasi, their daughter Agalya, and son Arun.
The driver, Vishnu, was from Villarasampatti in Erode district . District collector M Thangavel visited the accident site and later inspected the bodies at the govt hospital.
