LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Another round of potentially dangerous storms is expected to impact our region this afternoon. With possible hazards including giant hail, destructive winds, flash flooding, and isolated tornadoes.

Today’s set up is very similar to what we saw yesterday with all the ingredients in place for explosive thunderstorm development.

Conditions this morning are relatively calm featuring low clouds and fog but that’s expected to change.

As the cloud cover breaks apart by the afternoon, sunshine will heat things up and allow temperatures to climb into the 90s.

Winds coming in from the south will drive warm humid hair from the gulf into our region, giving the atmosphere plenty of fuel to work with for storms and heavy rainfall.

This afternoon, an outflow boundary left over from earlier storms is expected to drift south and stall somewhere across the central part of the viewing area.

This boundary, combined with a small disturbance higher up in the atmosphere will serve as the main trigger for thunderstorm development.

Storms are likely to form near the Texas New Mexico border late this afternoon, and track east along that stalled boundary.

Again, storms that develop could produce strong gusts up to 90 mph, large hail, intense rainfall, and possible tornados.
