FIFA announces record USD 1 billion prize pool for Club World Cup 2025

NEW DELHI:

FIFA

has disclosed that the champion of the forthcoming Club World Cup, set to be hosted in the United States, will be awarded a prize sum of up to $125 million.
This announcement was part of a detailed breakdown of the allocation of the $1 billion total prize fund for the tournament, which is scheduled from June 14 to July 13, involving 32 teams.
The distribution strategy outlines that $525 million will be evenly divided among the participating teams, with an additional $475 million allocated based on teams' performance throughout the event.
The structure of the prize distribution ensures that the winning team, after competing in seven matches, could potentially amass up to $125 million, inclusive of performance-based bonuses.

The prize money allocation varies significantly across different continental representations. European clubs stand to receive between $12.81 and $38.19 million each, a figure that will be finalised based on a combination of sporting achievements and commercial factors.
In contrast, South American teams are set to receive a participation bonus of $15.21 million each. Teams from North and Central America, the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa will each be awarded $9.55 million for their participation. Auckland City, representing Oceania, will receive a participation fee of $3.58 million.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino highlighted that this prize money distribution model marks a historic high for a tournament featuring both a group stage and a knockout phase.
"The distribution model... represents the biggest prize money ever awarded to a competition comprising a group stage and a knockout phase," said Infantino.
"In addition to the prize money earmarked for the participating clubs, an unprecedented solidarity programme will be put in place with the aim of redistributing an additional $250 million to football around the world."
The Club World Cup's expanded format and substantial prize fund reflect FIFA's ambition to enhance the prestige and financial viability of the competition, promoting a more inclusive and financially sustainable future for the sport.
