Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

More reactions on the loss of Kenya’s African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship candidate Raila Odinga are expected.

Kenyans have been expressing mixed reactions after Djibouti’s Mahmoud Ali Youssouf was declared the winner in the AUC vote that was held in Addis Ababa on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

President William Ruto, while reacting to the outcome of the race, emphasized the importance of continental unity over individual ambitions.

Ruto, in a statement issued via his social media accounts on Saturday evening, expressed gratitude to African leaders for considering Raila‘s vision for the continental body.

“While the outcome of this election did not favor Kenya’s candidate, I wish to convey my deepest gratitude to the entire leadership of our great continent. Thank you for considering the Right Honourable Raila Odinga’s vision and priorities for the African Union and for giving him the opportunity to share his passion for the continent’s transformation,” Ruto stated.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on his part said that Kenya had never before fronted such a qualified, decorated and ideologically anchored candidate for an international job, such as Raila.

“For the record, Kenya has never before fronted such a qualified, decorated and ideologically anchored candidate for an international job. Our loss despite such a superior candidate with a clear agenda for the continent and after such an energetic campaign require that we figure out what else to get right in future bids,” Kindiki stated.

The Kenyan team of delegates that accompanied the duo to Addis Ababa is also expected to jet back.

Gor Mahia, the defending champions of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League, will face off against Tusker today, Sunday, February 16, 2025, in a top-of-the-table affair in Machakos.

The two teams are separated by four points, with Tusker ahead of K’Ogalo who are currently riding high on their new tactician Sinisa Mihic.
