FC Barcelona looks set to sign Liverpool star Luis Diaz this summer as explained by SPORT, citing anonymous sources.

Head coach Hansi Flick and Sporting Director Deco are in the market for a left winger, with number 10 Ansu Fati likely to be offloaded as the hallowed jersey once famously donned by Lionel Messi is passed on to Lamine Yamal.

There was January interest in signing Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United. Yet even though the Catalans finally returned to the 1:1 rule under Financial Fair Play (FFP) limits at the turn of 2025, that never amounted to anything serious or concrete as the England international wound up at Premier League rival Aston Villa instead.

Rafael Leao’s name has similarly been connected with a potential move to the renovated Spotify Camp Nou, which should be ready in time for the Clasico with Real Madrid in May, but his $104.7 million (€100 million) price tag is difficult for the Blaugrana to meet as it continues to recover from its economic crisis earlier this decade.

The hunt will therefore continue ahead of the 2025/2026 season. Previously, Antena 2 in Colombia reported that Barca had readied a $73 million (€70 million) offer for Luis Diaz which will be tabled in the summer, and SPORT now reports that “all roads lead towards the signing” of the 28-year-old.

By Deco, Diaz is seen as an “excellent” option who he knows from his time at their shared former club Porto.

Deco has also been following the player closely in the Premier League, where it was initially difficult for him to get going ahead of breaking out at Anfield and now helping Arne Slot’s men lead the English top flight by some distance to look like probable champions for the first time since the pandemic come May.

With a contract that ends in mid-2027 and a renewal described as “far away” at the moment, the next transfer window is likely to be the last that the Merseysiders have to cash in on Diaz.

Barca is expected to make few signings amid its preseason tour of Asia, but a left winger is certainly needed to provide relief to the likes of Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.

Raphinha currently plays on the flank in question, but Diaz arriving could push him over to the right sometimes.

Though Lamine is usually there, the risk of burning the teenager out could be reduced by having him sit on the bench on occasion.
