The fans of Cricket and IPL must surely be aware of Sameeksha Takke aka Atrangi Womaniya. The 28-year-old content creator wears her love for Mumbai Indians proudly on her sleeve. Interestingly, she has also been a sportsperson and dabbled in professional cricket for over a decade while also playing softball and baseball at a national level. Sadly, a debilitating ankle injury forced her to discontinue her cricket career and explore a white-collar job as a banker. In 2012, her journey as a social media influencer took off and it got a bigger boost during the pandemic. Her love for Mumbai Indians helped her bag the opportunity to host the cricket team’s talk show MI Live. In 2022, she was signed for an important role in Chakda Xpress, a biopic on fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, starring Anushka Sharma.
EXCLUSIVE: Sameeksha Takke explains how she got the nickname ‘Atrangi Womaniya’; opens up on working in Chakda Xpress: “I just wanted to be in the same space, BREATHE the same air as Anushka Sharma; she’s truly an AURA”; BREAKS silence on its impending release
In an exclusive interview with , Sameeksha Takke spoke about her journey, how she earned the title ‘Atrangi Womaniya’, Chakda Xpress and a lot more (Note: This interview took place before Mumbai Indians were eliminated from IPL 2025. Interestingly, her hope for Virat Kohli to finally lift the trophy did materialize, lending this exchange a touch of prophetic timing).
Being a die-hard MI fan, of course, I want us to lift the cup this time. Har season ki tarah, my loyalty is unshakable. The way the team bounced back after a slow start truly reflects the MI spirit - calm, composed, and clutch when it matters. But I’ll be real - if MI doesn’t make it to the finals, my heart will go out to RCB. I mean… 18 years? And Virat Kohli deserves to lift that trophy at least once. People might say, ‘Oh she’s not a true MI supporter’! However, I’m a cricket fan first. I’ve grown up watching and admiring the game, and sometimes your heart has space for more than one team. But make no mistake: MI vs RCB? I’m going blue all the way. RCB vs PBKS? I’m rooting for the team that’s waited almost two decades. That’s the beauty of sport - loyalty with empathy.
Before being a content creator, I’m a responsible human being. From the very beginning, I knew the kind of content I wanted to put out - funny, relatable and clean. My audience ranges from 12 to even 70+ and I’ve had people in their 60s and 70s run up to me saying, ‘Deedee, we love your content’! That means the world to me and I would never want to let them down. A lot of this comes from my upbringing. My mom has always taught me to choose the right path and use my voice to make a difference. Every time I plan a piece of content, I still run it by her. Content creation, for me, has never been just about views or numbers; it’s about creating something meaningful that brings joy and leaves a mark. Know your boundaries. Stay true to your voice. Make people smile without crossing lines!
I honestly don’t remember facing any criticism not because it didn’t exist, but because I never gave it the importance. Kiran Sir and Praful Sir shaped me both on and off the field while my dad always made sure I understood the deeper essence of the game. If I had wasted time entertaining every opinion thrown at me, I wouldn’t have played cricket; as simple as that.
I remember giving an audition for MCC. It was for a fictional character inspired by Indian cricketers Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Shikha Pandey. Since I’ve played cricket professionally, I got this opportunity through one of my cricket friends; actually, her mom was helping with casting extras at the time. It was such a fun and surreal experience to blend my love for cricket with a bit of acting. Life really does throw some beautiful surprises your way when you least expect it!
She’s truly an aura! I still remember working with her back in 2022. There was this one scene where we had to cut a cake, and as tradition goes, we had to smear it on everyone’s faces. Me, Anushka, and the rest of the girls made a full-on plan to target our director, Prosit Roy, and I kid you not, we ended up chasing him for a good 50 to 100 meters! So many fun memories from that shoot, but this one tops the list - pure chaos, pure joy!
Honestly, it wasn’t some big, life-changing role. I was just another cricketer on set. I was not exactly an extra either, because I did audition for a specific part. But if I’m being real, I said yes because I’m a massive fan of Anushka Sharma. I just wanted to be in the same space, breathe the same air and quietly soak in her aura. And I’m so glad I did because even being a small part of something this special felt surreal.
We’ve all seen first-hand how much heart, sweat and hard work went into this film, from every single person involved. I know I’m just a small part of it, and maybe it’s not my place to say much but I truly hope the world gets to witness the magic that was created on set. The film is still on the shelf for now, but fingers crossed that it sees the light of day soon. It deserves to.
Well, this is funny. I actually started my content journey through a WordPress blog. It was a time when I was juggling a part-time job and some side hustles. I was doing portrait shoots for my photographer friends, who, by the way, are now way too professional to call me for test shots anymore (laughs). One of my colleagues introduced me to WordPress. We had to name the blog something unique. I wanted it to be Hindi + English… and I was obsessed with the song ‘Womaniya’ at that time. But then came the real task - finding the first word. And honestly, considering the kaands and tantrums I’ve pulled off all my life, my whole family had already blessed me with the title, ‘Atrangi’. That’s how the blog was born as ‘Atrangi Womaniya’, because drama toh DNA mein hai (laughs).
How do your parents react to your fame and popularity?
Fame and popularity have never really gotten to my head but I’d be lying if I said they don’t warm my heart. Especially when I see how happy it makes my parents. They’re extremely protective by nature, so whether it’s a match or an event where people recognise me or ask for photos, they light up in their own quiet way. They’ve always told me, ‘Keep your feet on the ground. You’ve got so much more to achieve’. And that one sentence keeps me anchored, no matter what.
I’m forever grateful. Because for me, fame isn’t about attention; it’s proof that my efforts are being seen. My hard work is being noticed. And that feeling? I truly love it (smiles).
