EuroBasket 2029 Hosts Announced

The hosting rights for FIBA EuroBasket 2029 have been awarded to Estonia, Greece, Spain, and Slovenia. The 43rd edition of the competition will be held in Athens, Ljubljana, Tallinn, and Madrid. Madrid is also set to host the Final Phase.

The decision was made during a FIBA Europe Board meeting in Riga, Latvia. FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa expressed excitement about bringing the event to these prime basketball destinations, each with a strong basketball culture and commitment to delivering an outstanding event.

This marks the fifth time the tournament will be hosted by four countries since the multi-host format was introduced in 2015. FIBA Executive Director Europe Kamil Novak acknowledged the growing profile and prestige of FIBA EuroBasket, thanking all bidders and extending best wishes to the four hosts.

Spain, the reigning EuroBasket champions, will host the competition for the first time since 2007. Greece and Slovenia also bring valuable experience from previously organizing past editions of EuroBasket. Estonia's selection marks a historic milestone as first-time organizers, representing a strategic expansion of the competition’s geographical reach.

The EuroBasket 2029 co-hosts will take over from Cyprus, Finland, Latvia, and Poland, who are set to host the 2025 edition from August 27 to September 14. Spain, Estonia, Greece, and Slovenia have also secured an automatic EuroBasket berth, while the remaining spots will be decided by the Qualifiers.

Among the initial candidates, Germany and Finland withdrew their bids, while Lithuania and the Netherlands were ruled out during the final selection process.
