▪ No new WPV1 cases reported this week. The total WPV1 cases count for 2025 to date is 13 (2 from Afghanistan and 11 from Pakistan) and in 2024, the total case count remains 99 (25 from Afghanistan and 74 from Pakistan).
▪ Forty-Seven new WPV1 ES reported in 2025 this week from Pakistan. The newly reported WPV1 ES are as follows: 22 from Sindh province (4 from Karachi East town, 2 each from Karachi Keamari, Karachi South, Kambar, Sukkur and Hyderabad districts, and 1 each from Jamshoro, Dadu, Kashmore, Karachi Central, Jacobabad, Karachi Malir, Karachi Korangi, and Badin districts); 9 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (2 from Bannu district and 1 each from Manshera, Abotabad, Tank, Lakkimarwat, Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, and Kohat districts); 8 from Balochistan province (3 from Quetta district, and 1 each from Chaman, Sibi, Usta Muhammad, Dera Bugti, and Khuzdar districts); 6 from Punjab province (2 each from Lahore and Rawalpindi districts and 1 each from Multan and Gujranwala districts); and 1 each from Islamabad province (Capital Development Authority district) and Gilgit-Baltistan province (Diamer district). The dates of samples collection are between 5th - 19th May 2025. The total ES count to date in 2025 is 349 (30 from Afghanistan and 319 from Pakistan) compared to 741 in 2024 (113 from Afghanistan and 628 from Pakistan).
Vaccine derived poliovirus (VDPV)
▪ No new cVDPV2 cases reported this week. The cVDPV2 cases count in 2025 to date is 5 (1 from Djibouti and 2 each from Sudan and Yemen) compared to 53 in 2024 (44 from Yemen, 7 from Somalia,1 from Occupied Palestinian Territory and 1 from Sudan).
▪ One new cVDPV2 ES reported in 2025 this week from Djibouti. The newly reported cVDPV2 ES is from Djibouti province/district with collection date 4th May 2025. The number of cVDPV2 isolates from ES in 2025 to date is 25 (15 from Djibouti, 7 from Occupied Palestinian Territory and 3 from Somalia) as compared to 49 in 2024 (20 from Occupied Palestinian Territory, 12 from Yemen, 9 from Djibouti, 3 from Somalia, 2 each from Egypt and Sudan, and 1 in Bahrain).
▪ Advance notification: One VDPV2 case in 2025 was advance notified from Yemen from Marib province/district with date of onset in March 2025. Details will be shared within next bulletin.
