Edward, Aina win maiden junior tennis tourney

Daniel Edward and Goodness Aina, at the weekend, beat over 55 young tennis players to win the boys and girls’ categories of the maiden Tennista Foundation Junior Tennis Tournament held at Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos.

After four thrilling days of fierce competition and unwavering determination from the athletes nationwide, the final matches delivered stunning performances that sealed the emergence of Edward as the U-16 Boys champion and Aina as the U-16 Girls champion.

Edward defeated a tenacious Benjamin Joel, who finished as the Boys’ runner-up, while in the girls’ final, Aina outplayed Benjamin Ndifreke in an intense match that had the crowd cheering from start to finish.

To reward their hard work, dedication, and outstanding talent, Tennista Foundation awarded N100,000 worth of scholarship support to each of the first-place winners, while the runners-up received N75,000 worth of scholarship support.

In addition to these educational prizes, the winners were presented with brand-new Dunlop professional tennis rackets, custom backpack kits, gold and silver medals, and individual trophies to mark their well-deserved victories.

“This moment is special not just for the winners, but for every child who participated in this tournament,” said a representative of Tennista Foundation.

“We’ve witnessed some of the best displays of skill, resilience, and sportsmanship. This is exactly why Tennista Foundation exists, to give young talents the platform to thrive and dream bigger.”
