Edo deploys 70 doses of anti-diphtheria vaccines
Edo State government has sent 70 doses of anti-diphtheria vaccines to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) to prevent further deaths from the disease.
Two persons died of the infection last week in UBTH.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, who spoke after donating the vaccines to management of UBTH, said some doses were obtained from neighbouring Delta State.
Dr. Oshiomhole stated that what was worrisome was that the disease was going beyond expected scope.
He said vaccinated persons were found to be infected including those beyond age five who were not expected to be infected.
According to him, “We are working in collaboration with UBTH and NCDC (National Centre for Disease Control), we have spoken with the DG of NCDC and he graciously released 70 doses of anti-Diphtheria and we also reached out to Delta State Ministry of Health and they have been to give us another 20 doses.
